Kiln furniture for high-temperature firing

Batts & Plates

Stable, energy-efficient kiln supports engineered for reliable high-temperature firing. Available in standard ranges and bespoke shapes to match your process.

About this product

Industrial ceramic batts and plates are essential kiln furniture components — designed to provide a stable, heat-resistant foundation throughout the firing process. They’re used across ceramics, glass, metal sintering and other high-temperature industries, where the strength of the support directly affects firing consistency, energy use and the integrity of the ware. Our range covers plain, hollow, perforated, ribbed and pressed batts, plus sintering plates, kiln setters and machined cordierite — all available in standard shapes or engineered to your exact specification.

Material options

Our batts and plates are produced in a range of high-performance ceramic materials, each matched to specific firing conditions and process requirements:

– Cordierite — low thermal expansion, ideal for fast firing cycles
– Alumina — durable, high temperature and mechanical strength
– NSiC (Nitride Bonded Silicon Carbide) — excellent thermal shock resistance
– RBSiC (Reaction Bonded Silicon Carbide) — superior thermal conductivity and wear resistance
– RSiC (Recrystallised Silicon Carbide) — exceptional strength and conductivity in extreme conditions
– Mullite — strength and excellent thermal shock resistance
– Zirconia — high fracture toughness for precision applications
– Quartz — high thermal resistance, stable at elevated temperatures

FAQs

Your questions answered

What temperature range do your batts and plates withstand?

Our batts and plates are designed for high-temperature firing across repeated cycles. The exact maximum service temperature depends on the material specified — cordierite is ideal for fast firing cycles, while RSiC and zirconia grades operate at the highest temperatures and harshest conditions. Send us your firing programme and we’ll recommend the right grade.

Can you supply custom shapes or perforation patterns?

Yes. Alongside our standard range we manufacture custom-pressed and machine-shaped batts to your exact requirements. Perforated multi-hole batts are available in configurations from 21 to 186 holes, and machined cordierite parts can be produced for short runs and prototypes.

Which material should I choose for my kiln?

It depends on your firing temperature, cycle speed, ware type and the loads supported. Cordierite suits fast-fire kilns; alumina handles higher temperatures and mechanical loads; silicon carbide variants (NSiC, RBSiC, RSiC) deliver superior thermal conductivity and shock resistance.

Do you offer lightweight kiln furniture to reduce energy use?

Yes. Our extruded/hollow batts and lightweight cordierite shapes are designed to reduce mass without compromising strength — helping lower thermal mass, energy consumption and firing cycle costs.

Are sintering plates and kiln setters available for industrial production?

Yes. We supply sintering plates engineered for powdered metal parts under high pressure and temperature, plus ceramic setters shaped to support tableware, sanitaryware and other production ware. Both standard and bespoke designs are available.
