Porous alumina (EA99P) and cordierite are the workhorse catalyst support materials — controlled porosity, high surface area and chemical stability across the catalyst-life cycle. Anderman supplies pellet supports, monolith blanks and structured-packing ceramics for new catalyst formulations, plus the higher-temperature alumina grades for steam-reforming and ammonia-synthesis catalysts.
Reformer and reactor internals — thermocouple protection tubes, sample probes and refractory linings — run in hydrogen, sulfur, ammonia and chlorinated atmospheres at 400–1100 °C. Mullite and alumina (EA995/EA999) cover the majority; SiC handles the more abrasive or higher-temperature cases.
Pumps and valves handling acids, caustics and abrasive slurries use dense zirconia (EZY94) and SiSiC for the contact surfaces — ceramic-on-ceramic running faces outlast metal-against-ceramic significantly. Specify Y-PSZ for impact and toughness, SiSiC for highest abrasion resistance.
Atomising nozzles and metering orifices in spray-drying, fluidised-bed and reactor-feed service use Y-PSZ for its wear resistance and fracture toughness. Alumina is specified where chemistry or cost favour it over zirconia.
